As the hotel was built before cars existed in Waterloo region, unfortunately the construction of a car park for the hotel was never considered by the original owners. Luckily we are central DTK, which means there are heaps of city parking lots close by, plus, our ambassadors offer a valet service that can’t be beat! Alternative to valet, the closest city parking we recommend is the Benton and Charles city lot.
Car parks are located: Charles & Benton Garage GPS 43.448729, -80.489324

If you are cycling, there are many places to lock up around Kitchener. However, Kitchener does offer a more secure option for bicycle parking which can be found at this website: https://www.kitchener.ca/en/getting-around/secure-bike-parking.aspx

Although each room has similar furnishings and all the standard amenities, each layout differs. We adore every space in The Walper, so we definitely appreciate when guests recognize the beauty in them too! Our Front Desk would be delighted to request a specific room for you when you reserve. While we are unable to guarantee the room will be available during your stay, we do our best to customize your experience to your preferences.
We sure do! There are 3 restaurants on site, Lokal is currently open, while The Barrister's Lounge & TWH SOCIAL are temporarily closed due to COVID-19.
Lokal is our 2nd floor cocktail lounge, currently open from 5-9pm every Wednesday through Saturday. Lokal has an incredible drink menu featuring seasonal cocktails and is currently offering delicious dinner and dessert options as well. Contact the Front Desk to make your reservation.
Currently The Barrister's Lounge (our historic breakfast room overlooking the intersection of King & Queen Sts) is closed, as is TWH Social, our farm-to-table restaurant is located in the lower level of The Walper Hotel. We look forward to re-opening both of these restaurants as soon as we can. While we're closed, our team is working together to bring fresh ideas, menu items and new offerings to the restaurant for when we are able to serve you again. Follow us on Instagram @twh_social for updates.
You will also find Gary Evans Photography and Coffee Culture in the #WalperBlock!

The Walper Hotel is named after it's founder, Abel Walper. He commissioned the construction of the building (as it appears now) in 1893, following a fire that destroyed the previous hotel that stood in the same spot.
The corner of King & Queen was the first intersection of what is now Kitchener and has an incredbile history. Stay tuned for more on this!
Our Main Lobby is accessible via a ramp on Queen Street. Or if you prefer, enter via our 1 King Street entrance. At times, this entrance may be locked, but the Front Desk Team is available to meet you anytime. Just give them a call at (519)745-4321.
Elevators connect all floors of the hotel, including TWH Social (The Oak Lobby Elevator will take you down to the restaurant level). Please don't hesitate to ask for assistance getting there.
Accessible rooms are available, please contact the Front Desk for additional details.
Our eco efforts include conscious decisions to shop local, support artisans and of course, environmental initiatives. For more details about these programs and partnerships, follow us on instagram!
